It turns out that the Hudson is closed today at Tappan Zee Bridge. \u00a0They are putting up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newnybridge.com\/\">new bridge<\/a> and they need to close the bridge to boat traffic, today being the first time, the closures will continue through 2016 and 2017. \u00a0From their website &#8220;Approximately 70 closures are anticipated through the end of 2017&#8221; \u00a0Anyone heading south this fall or heading north in the spring should check the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newnybridge.com\/\"> New NY Bridge website<\/a> for closures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eglin.net\/2bikes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/DSC00573-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1136\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eglin.net\/2bikes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/DSC00573-1.jpg\" alt=\"dsc00573-1\" width=\"1500\" height=\"844\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eglin.net\/2bikes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/DSC00573-1.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.eglin.net\/2bikes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/DSC00573-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eglin.net\/2bikes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/DSC00573-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.eglin.net\/2bikes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/DSC00573-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.eglin.net\/2bikes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/DSC00573-1-680x383.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.eglin.net\/2bikes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/DSC00573-1-920x518.jpg 920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This information was filed in all the legally required locations, however, this was on page 31 of a 49 page <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newnybridge.com\/documents\/boat-safety\/cg-ntm.pdf\">Notice to Mariners<\/a>\u00a0 As with most\u00a0bureaucracies, NY State and the USCG dropped the ball on telling boaters. \u00a0This is not unusual, Douglas Adams put it best:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;\u201cBut the plans were on display\u2026\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cOn display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cThat\u2019s the display department.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cWith a flashlight.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cAh, well, the lights had probably gone.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cSo had the stairs.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cBut look, you found the notice, didn\u2019t you?\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cYes,\u201d said Arthur, \u201cyes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying \u2018Beware of the Leopard.\u201d&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We found out about the closure when we approached the bridge this morning at 08:10 following the closure at 08:00. \u00a0The email notification of the closure arrived about 11:00 as we walked back from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.didierdumas.com\/\">nice patisserie\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0in Nyack.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, Nyack is a nice town and we enjoyed the walk around town. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyackboatclub.org\/\">Nyack Boat Club<\/a> have been generous hosts to a few boats today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We were up early this morning, but not early enough. \u00a0We left an anchorage in Haverstraw Bay after a 60NM trip yesterday.
